Detailed Description of Real Fuels

Due to the molecular complexity of common fuels, experimental and computational investigations of fuel reaction kinetic during combustion is not practically possible. Therefore, fuels can be numerically reproduced only by surrogates of simple molecular composition. Surrogates of different complexity can be used and the lower is the amount of species considered, the smaller and faster is the chemical reaction mechanism that can be used to solve reaction kinetics.
