EFFECT OF BENZYLADENINE AND PROMALIN ON SOME FRUIT CHARACTERISTICS OF 'SHAFIEABADY' AND 'GOLAB KOHANZ' APPLES

2012
In order to evaluate the effect of Benzyladenine (BA) and Promalin on some fruit characteristics in apple an experiment with Iranian apple cultivars 'Shafieabady' and 'Golab Kohanz' (Malus domestica L.) was conducted. The experiment was performed with four treatments (control, 50 mg L-1 BA, 100 mg L-1 BA, and 100 mg L-1 Promalin) in four replications. The experimental design was factorial in a randomized complete block design. BA and Promalin were sprayed at full bloom. Results showed a reduction in June fruit set. Promalin reduced June fruit set in 'Shafieabady' and BA declined June fruit set in 'Golab Kohanz'. 'Golab Kohanz' had higher May fruit set compared to 'Shafieabady'. Aborted seeds of 'Golab Kohanz' were increased by the BA treatments. Mean fruit weight of ‘Golab Kohanz’ was increased by Promalin application while mean fruit weight of 'Shafieabady' was increased by BA application. Seed number of fruits, fruit length and fruit diameter were not affected by treatments. Fruit weight, fruit length and fruit diameter of 'Shafieabady' were higher in comparison with 'Golab Kohanz'.
