Coding for Higher-Order Modulation and Probabilistic Shaping

2020
Information theoretic tools are used to design communication systems with coded modulation and probabilistic shaping (PS) that operate close to the Shannon limit. Probabilistic amplitude shaping is introduced for channels with a symmetric capacity-achieving distribution and geometric shaping is discussed. Binary and non-binary low-density parity-check codes are designed considering various constraints and target rates. Finally, applications of PS are investigated for optical communications.
