TRIBEX-Datenbank zur Werkstoffauswahl bei tribologischen Beanspruchungen

Aside from experience, wear testing is often the only way to solve a specific tribological problem. Databases with search functions considerably facilitate utilisation of test results. Since the mid 1970s, BFI Betriebsforschungsinstitut VDEh-Institut fur angewandte Forschung GmbH (the applied research institute of the German Steel Institute) has been determining the tribological characteristics of materials using a variety of wear testing machines. Different types of wear, in some cases with superimposed corrosion, have been simulated in model testing machines in a wide range of different loading scenarios. The database contains complete information on the tribological system structure, on the loading modes, as well as data on the materials and geometries of the wear pairs. The database is being continuously expanded.
