Oral Tongue and Mandibular Reconstruction

Abstract Oral tongue and mandibular reconstructions are common challenges for reconstructive surgeons. Their intricate anatomical and functional relationship should be considered and addressed during surgical planning. The chapter provides an overview of embryology, functional anatomy, and principles of oral tongue and mandibular reconstruction. Reconstruction options, flap selections, important surgical concepts, steps, and technical pearls are also described based on current evidence and the senior author’s experience. Reflective discussion of new technologies in mandibular reconstruction is presented at the end of the chapter, sharing the authors’ current experience and ideation towards new advances in the world of oromandibular reconstruction.
