Electrochemical reduction of lindane using a cobaloxime containing electron-withdrawing groups

Abstract The cobaloxime [CoCl(dbegH) 2 (py)] where dbegH is 4,4′‑((1E,2E)‑1,2‑bis(hydroxyimino)ethane‑1,2‑diyl)dibenzoate and py is pyridine was synthesized. The electrochemical behavior was studied using cyclic voltammetry. A reversible Co(II)/Co(I) wave is observed at −0.63 V vs Ag/AgCl. Addition of lindane results in a catalytic wave near the Co(II)/Co(I) potential. An apparent rate constant of 2.9 ± 0.6 × 10 3  M −1  s −1 was estimated for lindane dehalogenation.
