Tropospheric ozone interacts with weather and climate

2021
Abstract Tropospheric ozone is an important air pollutant and greenhouse gas, and also plays a key role in atmospheric chemistry. Its evolution in the atmosphere is strongly modulated by weather and climate, involving a number of biogenic, chemical, and dynamic processes on a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. Changes in tropospheric ozone in turn alter climate through radiative and biogenic feedbacks. This chapter summarizes our current knowledge of the interactions between tropospheric ozone and weather and climate as revealed by observational and modeling studies to date, and their implications for understanding tropospheric ozone variations from regional to global scales and from past to future.
