Facile fabrication of epoxy/polybenzoxazine based superhydrophobic coating with enhanced corrosion resistance and high thermal stability

2019
Abstract A durable epoxy/polybenzoxazine based superhydrophobic coating with enhanced corrosion resistance and high thermal stability was prepared on mild steel by spray coating and thermal curing method. The curing reaction between epoxy and benzoxazine were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The epoxy/polybenzoxazine based superhydrophobic coating exhibited high thermal stability, desirable mechanical durability and good self-cleaning property with a static water contact angle of 165.2 ± 2.2°. The results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) showed that the as-prepared superhydrophobic coating performs high corrosion resistance after immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl aqueous solution for 30 days. It is believed that such a superhydrophobic coating has potential application in practical conditions that need waterproof, dustproof, heatproof and corrosion resistance.
