Wound dressing material comprising N-acetyl cysteine

2009
A wound dressing material comprises: a wound dressing carrier, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) or a salt or derivative thereof, and a stabilized ascorbate. The stabilized ascorbate is a salt or derivative of ascorbic acid and may comprise (for example) ascorbate-2-phosphate, ascorbate-2-polyphosphate and / or ascorbate-2-triphosphate. Suitable cysteine derivatives may be represented by the formula: R1-CO-NH-CH(COOR3)-CH2-S-R2where R1-R3are described herein (e.g. see page 4). The wound dressing may be used to treat a chronic wound including ulcers (e.g. dermal ulcer, venous ulcer, decubitus ulcer, diabetic ulcer). Alternatively, a material comprises a wound dressing carrier, N-acetyl cysteine (or a salt or derivative thereof) and ascorbic acid (or a salt or derivative thereof).
