Investigation of Perpendicular Recording Characteristics based on of Computer Simulations and Recording Tests.

An analytical method was developed for estimating the isolated transition length of perpendicular recording system using single-poletype head and double-layered medium. Recording characteristics were also examined for perpendicular system, and compared with the latest longitudinal recording system. Based on these examinations, recording conditions for achieving an areal recording density of 40 Gb/in 2 were discussed.
