Development of Powered Wheelchair Expanding Range of Independent Activities of Physically-handicapped Person

In this research, we aim to develop a powered wheelchair expanding the range of independent activities for a physically-handicapped person. For this purpose, in this paper, we discuss the specifications of such a wheelchair. Its power train and drive unit are designed to satisfy the specifications. Furthermore, the powered mechanism controlling seat position and attitude is also investigated. As a result, a prototype miniature model has been produced to verify the availability of the proposed wheelchair system.
