ENFERMEDAD DE CHAGAS EN LA REGIÓN NORORIENTAL DEL PERÚ. I. TRIATOMINOS (HEMIPTERA, REDUVIIDAE) PRESENTES EN

Objectives: To identify triatomines in San Ignacio and Jaen provinces (Cajamarca) and in Bagua, Condorcanqui and Utcubamba provinces (Amazonas). Materials and methods: The triatomines were collected from May 1995 to December 2000 inside and outside the households in 15 districts in San Ignacio (5) and Jaen (10) (Cajamarca); and in 5 districts in Bagua, one in Condorcanqui and 6 in Utcubamba (Amazonas). The collection was done between 08:00 and 19:00 hours using a 30 cm-long wire, long forceps and a hand held lantern. Results: 5567 triatomines belonging to 5 species were collected: Panstrongylus herreri was the predominant species recovered (94%). Ninety percent of the triatomines were found inside the households. Rhodnius robustus was found for the first time in Amazonas. Rhodnius ecuadoriensis and R. robustus specimens were found in minimun percentages in Sallique (Jaen) and Nieva (Condorcanqui). Panstrongylus geniculatus was collected inside the houses in La Coipa, Huarango and Namballe (San Ignacio), as well as in Bellavista and Santa Rosa (Jaen) and Aramango, Copallin and Imaza (Bagua). It was also found in Jamalca, Cajaruro and Bagua Grande (Utcubamba). Panstrongylus chinai, a wild species with a tendency to become domestic was found in Santa Rosa, Bellavista, Chontali, San Jose del Alto (Jaen) and in Namballe, San Ignacio, La Coipa and Chirinos (San Ignacio). It was also found in Cajaruro and Bagua Grande (Utcubamba). Around 90% of P. herreri species were found inside the houses. In Cajamarca, it was collected in Pomahuaca, Pucara, San Jose del Alto, Pirias, Bellavista, Santa Rosa, La Coipa and Huarango, while in Amazonas, it was found in Aramango, Parco, Bagua Grande, Cajaruro, and El Milagro.
