Research on wire rope wear detection based on computer vision

In lifting equipment, the quality of wire rope is directly related to production safety. In this study, infrared image of wire rope is captured by industrial camera, and the background modelling method based on location binary pattern is proposed to extract foreground of moving wire rope. Then the outline of wire rope is extracted by Canny edge detection, and the diameter of wire rope is corrected by one-dimensional measuring method and direction fitting. Experiments show that this method can accurately extract the moving wire rope and can detect the diameter of the wire rope and locate abrasion.
