UTVRĐIVANJE VALJANOSTI SUBJEKTIVNE PROCJENE OPTEREĆENJA TRENINGA KAO MJERE UKUPNOG OPTEREĆENJA ZA DISCIPLINU KATE U KARATEU

2020
The main goal of this study was to investigate validity of sRPE, as a training load (TL) method, in relation to Edwards’ TL and Banister training impulse (TRIMP) in karate kata discipline. Eight elite karate kata athletes, members of the national karate team, took part in this study. Firstly, subjects performed a multistage fitness test (Beep test) in order to determine maximal heart rate. The subjects then, in the following three weeks, performed three different kata training sessions while their heart rates were monitored. Thirty minutes after the end of each session, RPE was collected for each subject. Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used for determining associations between TL variables. Results show that TL of three sessions are not significantly different in relation to Edwards' TL (p=0.064) or Banister TRIMP (p=0.102). However, sRPE was significantly different between each training session (p<0.001). Results in situational sessions show significant correlation between sRPE and Edwards' TL (r=0,71). In specific session there are no significant correlations between sRPE and Edwards' TL (r=0,72) or Banister TRIMP (r=0,52). Technical session shows significant correlation between sRPE and Banister TRIMP (r=0,82). HR-based methods for TL assessment are not able to discriminate between kata training sessions and, therefore, sRPE should be used by coaches to monitor TL in karate kata athletes.
