Separation and sequestration of CO2 in geological formations

Abstract One of the biggest environmental concerns today is that of global warming. The formation of a variety of international organizations has been formed in an attempt to deal with these issues. Currently, three main areas are being explored which when operated together are known to stabilize fluctuating levels of greenhouse gases (GHG). These include increasing the efficiency of energy sources and utilising less carbon-intensive sources of energy as well as finding different and effective ways to sequester carbon. The trapping and storage of CO2 in geological formations form one of the best strategies to stabilize atmospheric concentrations of CO2. This review aims at covering the separation an capture of CO2 from a range of sources as well as providing insight into possible problems that may be encountered when deep injection of CO2 into geological formations occur.
