Assessment of Sardinella and other Small Pelagics in West Africa

The year 2003 was the sixth year of the cooperation between RIVO and the Mauritanian fisheries research institute IMROP (Institut Mauritanien des Recherches Oceanographiques et de Peche). It was also the second year of the current contract between RIVO and the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. The cooperation between the Dutch and Mauritanian institutes is aimed at the transfer of technology and experience in the field of pelagic stock assessment. By increasing Mauritania’s capacity for pelagic stock assessment, prospects are improved for a sustainable management of pelagic resources in the area.
