DETERMINATION OF THE SWITCH OVER REGIONS IN A TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEM

THE PAPER IS CONCERNED WITH THE SWITCHING OF VARIOUS SIGNAL PROGRAMS OF A TRAFFIC SIGNAL FACILITY OR GROUP OF SIGNALS. THE TRANSITION SHOULD NOT BE NOTICED BY THE ROAD USERS AND DISTURBANCE TO TRAFFIC SHOULD NOT OCCUR. THE SYSTEM SHOWN PERMITS SEVERAL SWITCHOVER REGIONS IN AN EXISTING SIGNAL SYSTEM TO BE SOUGHT, IN WHICH THE PROGRAMS CAN BE SHORTENED, INCREASED OR SWITCHED. THESE REGIONS ARE NECESSITATED FOR THE PROVISION OF THE NEW SWITCH OVER METHOD (GUSS), WHICH CAN BE ACHIEVED USING THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL COMPUTER VSR 16030 P; SO THAT A CHANGEOVER CAN BE MADE FROM ONE PROGRAM TO ANOTHER MORE RAPIDLY AND SMOOTHLY. THE MATHEMATICAL BASIS OF THE METHOD IS SHOWN AND ILLUSTRATED BY AN EXAMPLE.
