Family Life Education in Taiwan

This chapter includes a brief overview of families in Taiwan through social-economic, historical, and cultural contexts. Family strength and needs in Taiwan are briefly discussed. The development of family life education which led to Family Education Act being passed in January, 2003, is explored and explained. Taiwan is the first country that nurtures and strengthens individuals and families through a family education law. Detailed information is given on the guidelines of Family Education Act and how it is translated in school, community, and city settings. Helpful resources, government and NGO websites, and family-related department websites at various universities are provided to learn how this policy has shaped the landscape of family education in Taiwan. Recommendations for future research are also given.
