Analysis on Accommodative Function and Change of Phoria due to Noise Stress

2021
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of stress from noise on various visual functions. Methods : Sixty young adults (23.12±1.26 years) with no eye diseases, surgical history, and eye movement abnormalities were involved. Before and after exposure to noise, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), accommodative amplitude, response of accommodation, distance and near phoria, and NITBUT were measured. Results : After exposure to noise stress, the PSS was increased. While the accommodative amplitude, the response of accommodation, and NITBUT were decreased, the distance and near phoria were increased. After exposure to noise stress, the perceived stress scale increased. The accommodative amplitude measured by the push-up and minus lens addition method and response of accommodation decreased. While the NITBUT also decreased, the distance and near phoria showed a tendency to increase. Conclusion : From the results of this study, it is shown that noise stress affects visual function in various ways. Therefore, it is considered that it is important to construct the optometry clinic environment so that noise stress caused by the surrounding environment does not occur during refraction test and visual function evaluation.
