TRICHOSTRONGYLIDAE LARVAE IN SHEEP FAECES A great deal of economic losses in animal production, especially sheep, are caused by Trichostrongylidae, mainly Haemonchus sp. and Trichostrongylus sp. parasites. Therefore, this study identifies Trichostrongylidae infective larvae in sheep faeces by the quantitative coproculture method. Various parasitological tests were carried out on 6 animals, such as faecal egg counts (FEC), coproculture, and Famacha. FEC findings revealed that 67% of the sheep presented Trichostrongylidae eggs, and infective larvae were observed in 100% of faecal cultures. A total of 1,861 larvae were counted, of which 44 (2,4%) were Trichostrongylus sp. and 1,816 (97,6%) were Haemonchus sp. The latter parasite showed higher prevalence values, thus resulting in heavy economical losses and animal mortality due to anemia.
