Conflicts between Catholicism and Confucianism

2003
At the end of Min Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, the churchmen leading by Matteo Ricci started to carry throgh the activities of culture intercommunion and missionizing in China. However, the differences between the two cultures towards the relationship of father and son, husband and wife, and the ceremony finally led to violent collision between the western ethics and the Chinese traditional family morlity. The Chinese traaditional moral critenons of paramountcy of paternity, males senior while females inferior, one husband with several wives, and ancestor worship were so against the grain with the Catholic morality that they couldn't tolerate each other. And at lase the intercommunion of the two different culture broke off.
