Review on the research of DC grade xylitol

Xylitol has been successfully used as a sugar substitute in certain areas(e.g.chewing gum)because of its taste and technological processing advantages.Xylitol is a natural five carbon sugar alcohol which has the same sweetness as sucrose but fewer calories.Xylitol is found at low content in many fruits and vegetables,and can be produced in the human body during normal metabolism.The application of Xylitol becomes hot due to the understanding of its metabolic process,cavity prevention and other characteristics.However,xylitol can not be compressible directly,the crystallized xylitol cannot be compressed into tablets due to its insufficient hardness and low friability.Therefore,in order to utilize xylitol in tablets,a variety of approaches have been studied.The paper described the advance research of DC(directly compressible)grade xylitol.
