Phosphoglucomutase MutantsofNeurospora sitophila andTheirRelation toMorphology

1970
Biochemical andgenetic evidence ispresented thattherg-1and rg-2 genescontrol thestructure ofthetwoisozymes ofphosphoglucomutase (phosphoglucomutase IandII)inNeurospora sitophila. Results ofkinetic and gelfiltration studies showthatthetwophosphoglucomutases mayexist invitro either asseparate orasasingle butcomplex molecular species depending onthe ionic concentration. Thecomplex phosphoglucomutase molecule issuggested tobethephysiologically active formoftheenzyme.Thechange intheenzyme structure isdiscussed inrelation tothemorphological change intheragged mutantstrains.
