Comparative Study on CDMA Code Design of PMCW Radar on Long-Range Multi-Objects Detection : (Extended Abstract)

2021
As the technology of self-driving vehicles becomes increasingly mature, a high-performance and robust radar sensing system is required to face the complex road environment of L4–L5 self-driving vehicles. In order to address the needs of multi-target detection and inter-radar interference resistance, this paper will focus on the PMCW radar design. Currently, most PMCW radars use conventional 3G spread spectrum communication coding techniques, but these coding techniques are rarely dis-cussed and analyzed in the literature for the multi-target detection performance of PMCW radar. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the performance of available coding techniques such as Random Binary Sequence, M-sequence, and Gold code for PMCW radar detection environment. In addition, we discuss the performance of resolution and detectability affected by different CDMA coding length and system sampling rate. We also use Merit Factor and False Alarm Rate as indicators to evaluate the coding design performances. The experimental results show that the existing coding techniques can improve the detection rate by 20% and reduce the false alarm rate by 10% under the designed system parameters. This paper contributes to the future development of autonomous radar technology and provides a comprehensive numerical analysis for the performance of CDMA radar design.
