Determining a correction coefficient for dielectric properties between in vivo and ex vivo tumor

2020
This paper determines the possibility of generating a correlation or correction factor for the dielectric properties between in vivo and ex vivo tumor tissue measurements. The experiments performed include injecting the backs of C57BL/6 mice with colonic fibroblasts, which are derived from colonic tumors developed in the same species of mice. After the tumors grew to at least 9.5 mm in diameter, dielectric readings of the tumorous tissues and surrounding tissues are gathered for analysis. Data are collected using a network analyzer of the series E5071C and dielectric properties probe (85070E) over the microwave frequency range between 1-5 GHz. The results conclude that a general correction coefficient could be found ranging from 12.30 to 4.0 in terms of relative permittivity and from 0 to 1.44 in terms of effective conductivity.
