Optical Properties of Tetra-PhenylButadiene as wavelength shifter for the detection of VUV scintillation light from liquefied noble gases

2018
Abstract Tetra-PhenylButadiene (TPB) is the most common wavelength shifter used in liquefied noble gases experiments, due to its extremely high efficiency to convert VUV light in visible photons. A study of transparency, diffusion and reflection properties of TPB at its emission wavelength as a function of the thickness of the surface has been carried out for the first time. The measurement apparatus and preliminary results on scattered, backscattered and transmitted light will be presented. Data obtained can be used in Monte Carlo simulation.
