SINIF ÖĞRETMENLERİNİN TEKNOLOJİ KULLANIMLARININ İRDELENMESİ AN INVESTIGATION OF ELEMENTARY TEACHERS' USE OF TECHNOLOGY

2011
As the technology has gained a widespread use in our daily lives, the use of technology in instructional settings becomes a necessity rather than a choice or option. In addition, in the 21 st century, use of technology has become one of the basic skills that individuals are expected to have acquired. This perspective is also present in the recently reformed Turkish curriculum in which the importance and necessity of technology aided instruction is emphasized. There are many research attempts which investigate the effect of technology supported instruction on student performances as well as educational outputs. Multimedia and interactive software (whether it be web-based or operated on a CD-Rom) support student learning. Effective use of technology requires a change in teaching along with employment of new instructional strategies. In this connection, it is more important to think about the use of technology with appropriate pedagogical approaches than about the frequency of technology use. This study is a byproduct of a research project on “elementary science and mathematics teachers’ professional development”. As part of this research, participant teachers received training on integration of technology into instructional practices. Video-records of three elementary teachers’ classroom practices were 5 International Computer & Instructional Technologies Symposium, 22-24 September 2011 Firat University, ELAZIĞTURKEY examined within the framework of RAT (replacement-amplification-transformation) proposed by Hughes (2005). The results suggest that the teachers employed technology mainly at replacement level.
