SEARCH FOR LIMITS OF STABILITY: 16Be
2003
In order to search for the heaviest possibly bound beryllium isotope, I6Be, a primary beam of was accelerated to 140 MeVhucleon using the newly completed Coupled Cyclotron Facility at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University. Neutron-rich fragmentation products emerging from a beryllium production target were separated with the A1900 fragment separator set to its maximum magnetic field of 6 Tm. The isotopes 6 . 8 ~ ~ . ' . lI~i, l2.14fje, 17.19 B, and ' OC were identified using time-of-flight and energy-loss information, but no events of I6Be were recorded.
