Economics of Teak

2021
This chapter deals with the economics of teak. Specifically, it highlights the economic importance, the sources of teak timber for global market, as well as the actors of the value chain. Indeed, teak is produced all around the world, but mainly in tropical areas. Teak is one of the perennial crops generating the most important income. It provides profits for producers, traders, and processors alike. This species actively contributes to the development of countries whose economy is essentially based on agriculture. However, the consequence due to climatic variations strongly threatens the teak industry leading to a drop in production quantities over the years. It is therefore urgent to develop policies to protect this sector.
