Impact of polarization on Ultra-WideBand wireless indoor channel

2011
In this paper, we present novel results on polarization study for Ultra-WideBand (UWB) wireless channel in indoor environments. The measurements were conducted for Line of Sight (LOS) and Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) scenarios in indoor office environments covering a large frequency band from 2–6 GHz. Given the large band and the importance of UWB propagation parameters including polarization, the results of this study are of paramount significance for the design of indoor UWB communication systems. The results are provided in terms of received signal strength, small-scale fading and rms delay spread for different polarization angles of the transmit and receive antennas. It is shown that the maximum received power and the minimum rms delay spread happens when the antennas have the same polarization.
