Raman Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers

Raman gain is optically-pumped optical amplification. We discuss the discovery of the Raman effect and Raman amplification. Relevant fiber properties are introduced along with an overview of different approaches to Raman amplification. Applications as lasers and lightwave system amplifiers are shown.
