Finch Foundry, Devon

1995
Abstract Finch Foundry is a nineteenth century water-powered forge which produced agricultural hand tools. The family firm ceased trading in 1960 and the Foundry now belongs to the National Trust. The machinery survives and the tilt hammers, drop hammers, forges and grindstone, powered by waterwheels, can be seen working. The following description is the result of Martin Watts' survey of the machinery for English Heritage, and a buildings survey for the National Trust by Isabel Richardson.
