Equivalent modeling of the microwave dielectric properties for fiber reinforced shielding composites

2016
High conductive fiber reinforced composite materials are widely used in several industry applications due to the excellent mechanical properties and good performance of shielding effectiveness. In this paper, equivalent modeling of a dielectric matrix filled in with a square array of long conductive fibers is considered. A modified homogenization model is presented by taking the skin effect into account at microwave frequencies. The renormalized fiber diameter and volume fraction are described in this model, which extends traditional homogenization techniques' validity to higher frequencies. The proposed model can be introduced in numerical simulations or analytical formulae to efficiently estimate the behavior of shielding effectiveness of composites.
