Distributed localization in Wireless Sensor Networks using rotary antennas

The wireless sensor nodes localization is one of the key technologies in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). In this paper, a novel localization method using rotary antennas to generate radio interference (RRIPS) is proposed to satisfy the low power consumption and accurate localization in WSN. The anchor node in WSN equips with two rotary antennas which emit the same single frequency signals to generate doppler shift and radio interference. The doppler shift received by the sensor is utilized to obtain the necessary ranging information for localization. When the anchor is in different locations, the sensor gets multiple sets of doppler shifts to calculate its own position. This method only relies on radio transceivers without extra measurement equipments and the sensor nodes conduct localization in a completely distributed manner without centralized processing. The algorithm with low complexity and energy consumption is very suitable for large-scale wireless sensor networks.
