A novel maximum power point tracking control method suitable for a doubly salient electro-magnetic wind power generator system

2009
This paper describes a novel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control method suitable for a doubly salient electro-magnetic wind power generator (DSEG) system with fixed-pitch blades. The method quickly makes the output power converge on the maximum power point based on wind speeds detected from an anemometer. Different wind speeds correspond to their respective optimal rotational speeds that generate the maximum output power of the wind turbine. Different from traditional MPPT strategy, in this paper, excitation current is regulated to control the electromagnetic torque of the DSEG, which in turn makes the DSEG work at the optimum tip-speed ratio point. Effectiveness of the proposed MPPT control method is verified with simulation results.
