Semi-aperture technique (SAT) for receive array antennas

1998
Traditionally, the aperture distribution of the sum pattern for the receive array antenna is symmetrical and the aperture distribution of the difference pattern anti-symmetrical. It is proposed that if the semi-aperture technique (SAT) is used in the receive array antenna, the sum pattern and difference pattern of the original full aperture distribution can be obtained from the inphase and quadrature channels of the output of the array. Therefore, using SAT, the same beamwidth as that of the original full aperture distribution can be obtained. It means that the receive aperture is decreased to half the original one and the desired original beamwidth is still achieved.
