Intrinsic innervation of the spine includes the following: innervation of intervertebral discs and vertebral bodies for which nerve pathways depends on the sinu-vertebral nerve, and preferentially join some specific roots (like L2 at lumbar spine). This innervation is essentially vegetative. innervation of zygapophyseal joints, possessing a metameric and somatic innervation depending on the dorsal ramus of the spinal roots.
