Siti industriali del litorale marino del Golfo di Follonica tra il Bronzo finale e il primo Ferro

2015
A key context in the framework of specialized coastal sites, can be found around Scarlino on the Gulf of Follonica (Tuscany). Here, between the promontory of Portiglioni and the former lake, thanks to a program of preventive archaeology, a network of seven specialized sites exploiting marine resources has come to light. Excavations revealed the most complex set of features on the Tyrrhenian coastal sites known to date: furnaces for pottery production, basins for seawater evaporation, rectangular firing structures and accumulations of pottery sherds so-called “olle ad impasto rossiccio” (reddish coarse ware jars). This paper aims to give an overview of the various archaeological evidences with a suggested reconstruction of chaine operatoire followed by a first preliminary experiment based on the existing archaeological data.
