Proposal of a Correlation Function between 2D and 3D Roughness Parameters

2009
Geometrical, physical, chemical and functional features of a product are critical for accepting the associated manufacturing process, both overall and by stages. The surface finish of components of that product plays a critical role in these characteristics. Particularly the microgeometrical deviations affect negatively on other variables of surface such as hardness, resistance to fatigue and corrosion or tribological properties. Thus, roughness is an important factor in all stages of product life cycle. In this paper a basic methodology for parametric characterisation of surface finish by mean of roughness topography maps (2D and 3D) has been proposed and statistically validated. Furthermore, marginal and crossed correlation models have been considered. According to the proposed model it is possible to confirm the usefulness of the obtained function, assuring the compatibility of results.
