Increased transaminase activity in the liver after administration of cortisone.

1957
Abstract The action of therapeutic and toxic doses of cortisone on the normal and regenerating liver has been studied. The drug does not seem to influence the rate of hepatic regeneration, but it does induce, in both types of liver, a significant increase of GOT and GPT activities, and particularly of the latter. It is suggested that the hormone may enhance gluconeogenesis by activiting the transamination processes; in this connection, regenerating liver does not behave differently from normal liver.
