Geologic Map of the Benson 7.5' Quadrangle, Cochise County, Arizona, v. 3.0

2019
The Benson 7.5' quadrangle is located in western Cochise County, about 45 miles east of Tucson, Arizona. The quadrangle encompasses the town of Benson, a portion of the San Pedro River corridor, and the northeastern piedmont of the Whetstone Mountains. Except for the Whetstone Mountains in the extreme southwestern corner of the quadrangle, the map area is covered primarily with Quaternary alluvium, late Tertiary basin fill deposits known as the St. David Formation, and San Pedro River deposits. Bedrock and surficial geology was preliminarily mapped by Skotnicki in portions of the map area in 2001, with the majority of the mapping conducted between December 2002 and July 2003. This map is one of three 1:24,000-scale geologic maps that cover the Benson-Sierra Vista corridor.
