Study on inclined cracks in pressure vessels based on optical fiber ultrasonic sensors

2021
Abstract Because inclined cracks are more harmful to pressurized tanks than parallel cracks, the existing ultrasonic testing methods cannot meet the needs of on-line monitoring for pressure vessels. Therefore, in this paper, inclined cracks in a pressure vessel are studied by using optical fiber ultrasonic sensor technology. The relationship between the oblique angle of the inclined cracks, the time when the peak voltage signal appears and the peak voltage is discussed by using the ultrasonic reflection method. Based on the experiment, the mathematical relationship between the slope angle and the time of the peak voltage signal is modified, and then the simplified safety assessment parameters of the slope crack are modified.
