La tremosilla (Lupinus luteus): un nuevo huésped de Phytophthora cinnamomi en las dehesas de Andalucía occidental

2009
Phytophthora cinnamomi is a high aggressive pathogen causing root rot, wilting and death of Lupinus luteus (yellow lupine) in oak grasslands from south-western Spain. This oomycete, main cause of Quercus root rot in the same region, has been isolated from roots of symptomatic lupines in every surveyed grasslands. Artificial inoculations in different lupine varieties reproduced disease symptoms, both in pre- and postemergency. The pathogen was also reisolated from necrotic roots. Susceptibility of yellow lupine to root infection by P. cinnamomi resulted even higher than shown by blue lupine (Lupinus angustifolius). However, there were not significant differences in susceptibility among the essayed varieties of yellow lupine. The results obtained suggest that the culture of yellow lupine in oak grasslands affected by Quercus root disease caused by P. cinnamomi. This work is the first description of P. cinnamomi as root pathogen of yellow lupine.
