Aadhaar-Based Authentication and Authorization Scheme for Remote Healthcare Monitoring

2021
The ubiquitous use of digital technology in all domains and availability of Internet on smart, hand-held devices has made users’ privacy vulnerable. The technological use in remote healthcare monitoring is no exception. Remote monitoring of patients’ physiological parameters involves a body area network consisting of various sensor nodes and a coordinator node that gathers all sensed values and sends them to a health server over Internet. Since the patients’ data is exposed to the Internet, it is imperative to take measures for its protection and avoid misuse. The access to the data should be provided only after proper authentication. In this paper, we propose, Aadhaar-based authentication mechanism for patients’ medical data, wherein access to patients’ electronic medical record at various medical centers like clinics, hospitals, pathology, imaging centers, etc. is controlled by Aadhaar-based biometric or one-time password authentication. We also propose a secure mechanism for electronic medical record creation using the same authentication mechanism.
