Sekam Padi Sebagai Adsorben : Evaluasi Adsopsi Untuk Pewarna Tunggal dan Campuran

2017
Rice husk has been considered as agricultural waste with the production of 15.1 million tons by the year 2015. The waste can be used as adsorbent for colored wastewater. The agricultural waste is usually used as base for cage hens and often to be burned. In this study, we evaluate the waste which is used for single and mixed dyes adsorbent. The aim of the study is to evaluate the dye removal and also to find out adsorption isotherm model. Two type dyes were used in this study namely methylene blue and direct red 12B. The size of rice husk used in this study was -70/+100 mesh. Experiment was carried out using agitated batch system, isothermal for 3 hours with parameters: pH range from 5-9,adsorbent dosage from 2-8 gram, initial concentration of dye 10-25 ppm and temperature 30oC-50oC. The percentage of methylene blue adsorption was 98.9% at 30oC, 8gram adsorbent, pH of 7.0 and initial concentration of methylene blue was 15 ppm. The adsorbent was not able to adsorb direct red 12B. The combined methylene blue and direct red 12 B was adsorbed by rice husk up to 90.5 % at pH 7, using 2 gram adsorbent initial concentration of 15 ppm and temperature 40oC. The effect of dye concentration, initial pH, adsorbent dosage and temperature in the adsorption process will be studied. The adsorption isotherm model was also discussed.
