Golden Rooster Awards

1999
November 19 dispatch from Chongqing by our reporter: The people of Chongqing have long been waiting for this day—November 18. Nearly eighty thousand large good-luck structures are doing their utmost to light up the Mountain City [nickname for Chongqing—Trans.]—inflatable arches, billboards, balloons with streamers, cloth banners, publicity posters, car stickers, colored bunting, you name it. It is evident that the mood of the people here has been even more impatient in the wake of the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festivals. And as thirty million Mountain City people jubilantly busy themselves both on and off screen, the populations of other provinces and cities, including Beijing, have, for the most part, been able to glean via television only bits and pieces of information about the spectacular events at these authoritative film festivals.
