Numerical Study of the Possibility to Stabilize Condensed Liner Implosion

2007
Summary form only given. A possible experiment design for the Atlas facility to investigate the physics of imploding liners and determine the conditions of their stable motion is considered. Three possible experiment variants are discussed. The essence of the first proposal is reducing the initial liner radius R (from 5 to 3 cm). The second proposal is to conduct an experiment differing from LD-1-LD-3 by applying periodical certain wavelength perturbations on the external liner surface so that these perturbations do not have enough time to destruct the liner during it's acceleration, but can effectively inhibit the growth of chaotic perturbations. The essence of the third proposal is special treatment of the liner surface (turning with the step of the order of the liner diameter) to realize the idea of magnetic stabilization tested in the RUS-5 experiment conducted on the Pegasus facility at LANL.
