Wheat (Triticum aestivum L. em. TheIl) is one of the most important food crop for mankind and will continue to be so in the future. India ranks fourth in wheat acreage (22.60 million hectares) and production (45.09 million tonnes). In Himachal Pradesh, wheat occupies 374.9 thousand hectares with a production of 351.2 thousand tonnes(Anon., 1989).
