Abstract We report the first demonstration of laser oscillation of two close IR emission lines at 1076.3 nm and 1080.5 nm using a 1% Nd 3+ -doped Lu 2 O 3 transparent ceramics fabricated by the non-conventional Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) method. A comparison is made with Nd 3+ -doped Lu 2 O 3 and Nd 3+ -doped Y 2 O 3 ceramics elaborated by HIP conventional method.
