Improving the Voltage Stability of Power System Connected with Wind Farm Using SSSC

2021
The invested capacity of wind power generation is growing endlessly and its impacts on system voltage stability have been closely studied in the modern years. High penetration of wind energy system into grid causes fluctuations which adversely affect the quality of power and pose stability problems. Earlier wind farms were incorporated with Squirrel Cage Induction Generator, later with Doubly Fed Induction Generator. Recent studies initiate that the performance of the grid tied wind farms can be improved by installing FACTS controllers. The proposed system uses Static Synchronous Series Compensator for improving the voltage stability of three phase wind farms. This paper deals with the role of SSSC in improving the voltage stability of grid connected wind energy conversion system during three phase grid fault and is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK platform.
